Preparing to Apply for a Housing Opportunity: Part 1st

Housing Preparation Protocol (HPP) and Individual Readiness Training for Nonprofit and Housing Service Providers in New Jersey and Nationwide

Being matched to a housing opportunity is a critical milestone for any individual experiencing homelessness. However, being matched is only the start of a process that can quickly derail without proper preparation. Pringle's Training Services designed Part One of this series specifically to verify that both your team and the individuals you serve are fully ready before a single application is ever submitted.

Dr. Theresa Pringle, H.C., developed the Housing Preparation Protocol to address the fact that many individuals miss housing opportunities due to a lack of preparation, not because of ineligibility. The Pringle's principle applies directly here: Make It Make Sense. CHANGE THE MINDSET. CHANGE THE OUTCOME. Preparation is the mindset that completely changes the outcome of housing.

What This Training Is About

Part One of this series focuses on the Housing Preparation Protocol, or HPP. This structured framework ensures individuals are fully prepared to start the housing application process. Participants will gain a full and practical understanding of what individual readiness means across every critical dimension of the application process. A major and essential focus of this training is the documentation component of housing readiness. Missing or incomplete documents are the most common and most preventable reason housing applications are delayed or denied outright. This training provides your team with a streamlined system to ensure every individual is fully prepared before entering the application process.

What You Will Learn

  • What the Housing Preparation Protocol is, why it matters, and how to implement it consistently across your caseload
  • How to assess individual readiness across key dimensions before any application process begins
  • The specific documents most commonly required for housing applications and why each one is critical to have in place
  • Strategies to help individuals obtain missing documentation in an organized and timely manner
  • How to develop and maintain an individual readiness plan that addresses preparation gaps before application submission
  • A repeatable tracking and follow-up system that keeps individuals engaged and on track throughout the entire preparation phase

Key Outcomes and Takeaways

Participants will leave with a thorough understanding of HPP and how to apply it consistently across all clients. Your organization will see a significant reduction in application delays caused by missing documentation and inadequate individual preparation. Staff will gain real confidence in guiding individuals through the pre-application phase with clarity, compassion, and organization. Every participant receives a certificate of completion from Pringle's Training Services upon finishing this training session.
